Natt working to help less fortunate

The Denver Post, December 25, 2005

Calvin Natt brought joy to Nuggets fans for four-plus season. Now the 1985 all-star forward is hoping to spread joy from the pulpit as a minister and bring help to the needy through his nonprofit organization.

“My ministry and nonprofit organization is more rewarding than basketball,” Natt said. Natt recently became a minister at New Hope Baptist Church and preached for the first time Oct. 23. He said he received a minister's license Oct. 30 and eventually hopes to become ordained. His long-range plans include earning a master's of divinity degree, which could take four to six years to complete. He also is working on getting a mortuary science degree from Arapahoe Community college . “We all hope we will go to an eternal place,” Natt said. “There is another life after this life. All the money we accumulate, you can't take it with us. Like my mom always said, ‘Have you ever seen a Wells Fargo truck following a hearse?' No, you haven't. Everything we do here on Earth is going to diminish away.” Natt said his biggest regret as a player was not helping those less fortunate. But through his new charity foundation – All For One-One For All – he wants to focus on helping underprivileged children and abused women and children. Natt, who owns the Calvin Natt Family Mortuary, is working on landing a partnership with The Children's Hospital of Denver to help families through difficult times. “I'm going to donate funeral services to families who lose kids,” Natt said. “I go all over the city making removals (of the deceased), but when I go to Children's Hospital it really affects me when I have to pick up a young child.”

Natt is a regular at Nuggets games and is hopeful he can work for the franchise as an assistant coach someday.

“I can bring a lot of energy to the team as far as helping the big men with their inside game,” he said.
